Prices crashed to a new low of ₹66.11 a kg at Sale No: 30 of Coonoor Tea Trade Association – the lowest so far this calendar year. Still, as much as 5.52 lakh kg of tea worth ₹3.66 crore remained unsold as there were no takers for 22 per cent of the offer.
Homedale Estate tea, auctioned by Global Tea Brokers, topped the CTC market when Jay Kay Enterprises bought it for ₹190 a kg. Deepika Supreme got ₹183, Crosshill Estate, Vigneshwar Estate and Hittakkal Estate ₹181 each. In all, 81 marks got ₹125 and more.
Among orthodox teas, Kairbetta got ₹230, Kodanad ₹222, Chamraj ₹215, Corsley ₹194 and Havukal ₹193. In all, 33 marks got ₹125 and more .
Quotations held by brokers indicated bids ranging ₹43-48 a kg for plain leaf grades and ₹100-160 for brighter liquoring sorts. They ranged ₹45-49 for plain dusts and ₹120-180 for brighter liquoring dusts. On the export front, Pakistan was selective picking some grades in a wide range ₹42-62 a kg and the CIS, ₹ 43-73.
