Nearly 89% tea at Coonoor sale absorbed bl-premium-article-image

The positive sentiment that prevailed at Coonoor Tea Trade Association auctions in past few weeks continued at Sale No: 37 when nearly 89 per cent of the 25-week low offer of 11.32 lakh kg was absorbed with prices rising by Rs 2-3 a kg.

“Medium CTC leaf grades fetched Rs 4-7 more per kg and cleaner blacker sorts, Rs 1-2. Primary orthodox leaf, however, lost Rs 5-10. But, primary orthodox dusts gained Rs 2-5. High-priced CTC dusts fetched Rs 1-3 more and better medium sorts Rs 2-4 more,” an auctioneer told Business Line .

Among CTC teas, Shanthi Supreme topped at Rs 137. Homedale Estate and Blue Mont Speciality got Rs 136, Vigneshwar Estate Rs 135, Shanthi Supreme and Sree Tea Supreme Rs 133 each. In all, 61 marks got Rs 100 and more.

Among orthodox teas from corporate sector, Chamraj got Rs 185, Curzon Rs 169, Havukal Rs 165, Highfield Estate and Kairbetta Rs 160 each. In all, 35 marks got Rs 100 and more.

Among Green tea, Wood Bridge Estate, auctioned by Paramount Tea Marketing, got Rs 231.

On the export front, Pakistan bought in wide range – Rs 47-75 a kg and the CIS Rs 45-61.

Quotations held by brokers indicated bids ranging Rs 40-44 a kg for plain leaf grades and Rs 80-118 for brighter liquoring sorts.
