Minimum temperatures continue to be below normal by 2 to 4 deg Celsius over parts of plains of northwest, central and east India.

They were above normal by 2 deg Celsius over isolated pockets of northeastern states. The lowest minimum temperature of 8.2 deg Celsius has been recorded at Adampur in Punjab.

No significant change is seen in maximum and minimum temperatures over many parts of the country during the next two to three days, an India Meteorological Department (IMD) update said on Saturday afternoon.<br>

Meanwhile, an upper air trough has popped up in the lower levels of the atmosphere promising some welcome weather over a fast-heating up surface to the east of the country.

The trough ran down diagonally from northeast Orissa to north Karnataka topped up with an embedded upper air cyclonic circulation over Orissa and neighbourhood.

Expectedly, this has prompted a weather alert from the IMD scattered rains being forecast over Jharkhand and Orissa until Sunday.

The upper air cyclonic circulation over central parts of south Bay of Bengal has been persisting from overnight on Saturday. The other upper air cyclonic circulation over Assam and adjoining Arunachal Pradesh also persisted.

Satellite cloud imagery this (Saturday) morning showed the presence of convective clouds over parts of east-central and southeast Bay of Bengal and Andaman Sea.

IMD has forecast fairly widespread in the catchment region with rain or thundershowers being predicted over the northeastern States and Gangetic West Bengal until tomorrow.

It would be and isolated over Bihar, sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim and Chhattisgarh.

During the day until the evening on Friday, isolated rain or snowfall has been reported from Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

Widespread rainfall occurred over Gangetic West Bengal and Andaman and Nicobar Islands, scattered over Jharkhand and the Northeastern States and isolated over rest of east India.

Short-term forecasts valid until Tuesday said that fairly widespread rain or thundershowers would occur over Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Isolated rain or thundershowers would occur over Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Lakshadweep.

Extended forecast until Thursday said that the fairly widespread rain or thundershowers would continue over Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Scattered rain or thundershowers would occur over parts of east India and isolated over northeast and south peninsular India.
