Raghav Lakhanpal, a BJP member of Parliament, from Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh, on Wednesday appealed to the Centre to take steps to prevent Bajaj Hindusthan from closing down its sugar unit the district.

Raising the issue during Zero Hour, Lakhanpal said he had learnt that the company had written to the District Magistrate saying it was unable to run the company as farmers were not delivering sugarcane.

“This is not true, as 46 lakh quintals have already been given by the farmers to the unit,” said the MP, adding that the livelihoods of about 40,000-50,000 farmers were linked to this mill.
