The Empowered Group of Ministers is likely to take up next week a proposal to lift the ban on wheat exports. The EGoM may also consider a proposal to permit shipments of additional quantity of non-basmati rice.

Disclosing this, the Commerce and Industry Minister, Mr Anand Sharma, told reporters on the sidelines of a CII conference that, “These are some proposals. The EGoM will consider it.”

“The Food and Consumer Affairs Minister and I have discussed it two days ago. The recommendations which we feel are appropriate are being sent to the EGoM. The EGoM will consider it,” he added.
