Food Corporation of India (FCI) today floated e-tenders for construction of modern silos with 1.75 million tonne capacity in nine states.

The tender has invited applications for the selection of developer-cum-operator for the construction of foodgrain silos with a total capacity of 1.75 million tonne at 36 locations in nine states under Public Private Partnership (PPP).

The state-of-the-art silos are to be constructed under the DBFOO model, in which a developer builds, owns and operates them for 22 years, the tender said.

The last date for online submission of bids would be February 19, 2014, it added.

FCI, the centre’s nodal agency for procurement and distribution of foodgrains, is looking to build 2 million tonne of silos capacity by 2014-15 via PPP mode.

FCI has a storage space of about 74 million tonne including covered and plinth (CAP).
