Volume dips at Coonoor tea sale bl-premium-article-image

A volume of 14.93 lakh kg has been catalogued for Sale No: 33 of Coonoor Tea Trade Association auctions to be held on Thursday and Friday. This is some 60,000 kg less than last week’s offer. Of this, 10.32 lakh kg belongs to leaf grades and 4.61 lakh kg, dust grades. As much as 13.57 lakh kg belongs to CTC variety and only 1.36 lakh kg, orthodox variety.

The proportion of orthodox teas continues to be low in both leaf and dust grades. In the leaf counter, only 84,000 kg belongs to orthodox while 9.48 lakh kg, CTC.

Among the dusts, only 52,000 kg belongs to orthodox while 4.09 lakh kg, CTC.Homedale Estate’s Red Dust, auctioned by Global Tea Brokers, topped the entire CTC auctions at ₹233 a kg.

Homedale Estate’s Pekoe Dust, auctioned by Global Tea Brokers, followed at ` ₹230. In the CTC Leaf tea auctions, Homedale’s two tea grades, auctioned by Global Tea Brokers, topped at ₹210 and ₹200.
