Both the Centre and the State Government will pay a differential price of ₹2 per kg each (totally ₹4 per kg) to the growers, according to a statement issued by the Karnataka Agriculture Minister’s office.

In the wake of falling mango prices, Karnataka had urged the Centre recently to compensate the growers under the price deficiency payment scheme (PDPS) during the 2025-26 marketing season. The Centre has agreed for purchase of 2.5 lakh tonnes of mangoes under the PDPS scheme by the State and an official order is expected to be issued on Monday, the statement said. The Karnataka Mango Development and Marketing Board has been the implementing agency for the PDPS scheme.

Mango is one of the major horticulture crop in the state and in the current season, the fruit has been grown in about 1.39 lakh hectares. The state is expecting an output of around 10 lakh tonnes of mangoes during the current season.

Modal prices of mango ruled around ₹1,200-2,500 per quintal during May this year in parts of Kolar, Chikkaballapur and Ramnagar, the key producing districts, during May this year. However, in Srinivaspur of Kolar, the mango prices, especially totapuri variety have crashed to ₹450-550 per quintal recently. The recent ban imposed by the Chittoor district administration in Andhra Pradesh on entry of mangoes produced in Karnataka had impacted the mango prices.

The Karnataka Agricultural Prices Commission (KAPC) has estimated the production cost (A2+FL) for mangoes at ₹3,460 per quintal. However, the C3 Cost , which includes all expenses in cash and kind incurred by production by actual owner, the rent paid for leased land and imputed value of family labour, interest and managerial remuneration to farmer, is estimated at ₹5,466 per quintal by the KAPC.
