KPMG to sweeten Campco’s chocolate business bl-premium-article-image

The Central Arecanut and Cocoa Marketing and Processing Cooperative (Campco) Ltd will engage consultancy firm KPMG to improve operation and marketing in its chocolate division.

Campco procures and processes cocoa, and markets cocoa-based products.

The co-operative procured 1,893 tonnes of wet cocoa beans and 2,606 tonnes of dry cocoa beans in 2016-17.

Suresh Bhandary, Managing Director of Campco, told

BusinessLine that the board of Campco and KPMG India have given in-principle approval for this project.

The consultancy firm has been engaged for two years to help Campco step up sales finished and branded chocolates, besides exploring new markets.

The consultancy firm will also identify opportunities for cost reduction and operational improvement in the factory, supply chain and distribution.

According to Campco’s annual report, production at its chocolate factory in Puttur reached 13,328 tonnes in 2016-17.

Of this, the share of chocolate products under Campco brand stood at 8,570 tonnes. Campco also takes up job works for Nestle and other companies.

The co-operative sold 8,302 tonnes of chocolate products worth ₹183.31 crore during the year. Of this, the share of export was at 1,324 tonnes worth ₹29.55 crore.

Of the total sales, ₹48.65 crore came from finished chocolate products and ₹134.66 crore came from industrial products.
