Mixed trend at Kochi tea sale bl-premium-article-image

A mixed trend persisted for almost all varieties of tea at the Kochi auction. In sale No. 17 dust category, the quantity on offer in CTC grades was 11,47,500 kg.

Market for clean black well-made grainier varieties with good liquoring properties remained barely steady and tended to ease by Rs 2-3. Others were irregular and lower by Rs 3 to Rs 5 and sometimes more following quality.

Bottom of the market was barely steady and the decline was less, according to auctioneers Forbes, Ewart & Figgis.

The quantity on offer in dust grades was 7,000 kg with highgrowns remaining dearer. Demand for mediums and secondaries was irregular and lower. Bulk of the offerings was absorbed by exporters.

In the best CTC dusts, PD varieties quoted at Rs 108/126, RD grades ruled at Rs 120/148, SRD stood at Rs 126/149, while SFD at Rs 130/153.

Leaf sale

Leaf sale also witnessed a mixed trend and the quantity on offer in the Orthodox grades was 95,000 kg. The market for Nilgiri brokens and fannings was firm to dearer, while corresponding whole leaf was irregular and sometimes lower.

Medium bolder brokens and whole leaf was firm to dearer. Small brokens and fannings barely remained steady and sometimes to ease. 

The quantity on offer in the CTC grades was 94,000 kg. The market for good liquoring varieties was fully firm to sometimes dearer.

Clean black well-made fannings and smaller brokens also followed a similar trend. Plainer teas were irregular and lower and witnessed some withdrawals. 

In the dust category, Injipara-Premium RD quoted the best prices of Rs 161 followed by both Chinnar SFD and Injipara-Premium SFD at Rs 160 each.

In the leaf grades, Chamraj OP Delight (Green) fetched the best prices of Rs 421 and Goldsland Select BP-S at Rs 249.
