A subdued upcountry buying has impacted tea prices in Coonoor auctions, witnessing a ₹2 per kg drop in average prices.

Traders said the sales percentage was on the higher side due to price drop with blenders extending necessary support.

Global Tea Auctioneers said the offered quantity in leaf in sale no:2 was 15,82,634 kg, witnessing 85 per cent sales, while in dust it was 4,10,142 kg with a sales percentage of 63.

The high-priced teas and better liquoring sorts were generally easier by ₹4 to 5 and more at times, occasionally some quality lots sold dearer by ₹2 to 3 as well. The better medium sorts were barely steady to occasionally dearer by ₹1 to 2. The mediums and plainer sorts bolders grades were lower ₹1 to 2.

In dust CTC, the high-priced teas were dearer by ₹3 to 4 and more at times in line with quality. The better liquoring sorts were lower by ₹2 to 3 and more at time. The better medium sorts were also lower by ₹1 to 2 with some withdrawals. The mediums and plainer sorts had less demand and sold easier by ₹1 to 2 with heavy withdrawals due to lack of bids.

The primary orthodox dust grades had fair demand and sold dearer by ₹4 to 5 and more at times. The secondaries and finer dusts were fully firm to dearer by ₹2 to 3.
