Anti-dumping duty imposed on sewing machine needles from China

The Finance Ministry has imposed definitive anti-dumping duty on 'sewing machine needle' imports from China.

Based on the recommendations of the Designated Authority in the Commerce Ministry, the revenue department has imposed an anti-dumping duty of Rs 1,54,732 per lakh needles.

This anti-dumping duty would be valid for a period of five years.

ltek Beissel Ltd had filed the petition seeking a sunset review investigation on 'sewing machine needle' imports from China.

Sewing machine needles considered for the present investigation include those meant for both household and industrial purposes. A sewing machine needle is fitted into a sewing machine and used for sewing a number of products.

Needles are used for a variety of applications, important among them being sewing of woven arguments, knit garments, embroidery and leather. Besides, there are number of applications such as furnishings, doll-making, book sewing, vehicle seat covers, etc.
