The Assocham President-elect, Sunil Kanoria, on Monday appealed to all political parties, to support the crucial economic reforms agenda of the Centre that include support for the Goods and Services Tax (GST), Insurance Bill, and changes to the Land Acquisition Act.

The reforms agenda, he said, might put the economy back on the growth path.

The Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry (Assocham) is one of the apex trade associations of the country.

"The business confidence has certainly improved in the last six to seven months. But this confidence now needs to get translated in the project delivery; kick-start the investment cycle and boost consumer demand,” he said during the organisation’s management committee meeting here in the city today.

Referring to the 'Make in India' programme of the Centre, Assocham maintained that manufacturing activity can pick up only when the Land Acquisition Act is amended.

Under the present dispensation, it is next to impossible to acquire land for industrial projects, more so in the private sector.

An appeal was also made to the West Bengal Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee, to support the amendments in the law and boost manufacturing.
