Defence research laboratories from the Bangalore region have swept a large number of annual DRDO awards.
Scientists from the Bangalore-based labs have taken home ten of 16 awards for 2011 that came to the southern region for two categories, a DRDO release said.
Overall 32 awards were announced in two categories.
The Defence Minister, Mr A.K. Antony, gave away the awards during the annual Directors' conference 2012 held in New Delhi on Tuesday.
Dr V.K. Saraswat, DRDO Director-General and Scientific Adviser to the Defence Minister; the three service chiefs and directors of DRDO labs were present at the event.
Six Bangalore scientists got the Young Scientist award: Mr Vikram Singh, Aeronautical Development Agency; Mr K.P. Jayaprakash, Centre for Air Borne Systems; Mr Hemant Vasant Paranjape, Defence Avionics Research Establishment; Mr J. Sankar Kumar, Gas Turbine Research Establishment; Mr Pramod Kumar, Electronics & Radar Development Establishment; and Mr Santhosh Kumar, Microwave Tube Research & Development Centre.
In the Best Performance category, Ms Renu Sharma, Centre for Military Airworthiness & Certification; Mr N. Hoysala, Defence Bio-Engineering & Electro Medical Lab; Dr S.N. Mahesh, Centre for Artificial Intelligence & Robotics; Ms M.K. Geetha, MTRDC, won the award.
The other award has gone to Mr K. Manoharan, the lone awardee from Kochi's Naval Physical & Oceanographic Lab.
