China and many other members of the World Trade Organization (WTO) now understand and appreciate India's strong stand on food security which led to the derailment of talks in July-end, Commerce and Industry Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has said.
"I recently met my Chinese counterpart who told me that they understood where we were coming from (when India took its strong position),'' the Minister told presspersons on Wednesday.
India had refused to support a protocol on trade facilitation being pushed by the developed countries in the absence of a permanent solution on its concerns on food security.
"We have been having meetings with several WTO members who agree with our stand," Sitharaman said.
