India and Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) should work together for food security, not just in India, but also the entire region, Agriculture Minister, Radha Mohan Singh, told Peter Kenmore, FAO’s Representative in India.

Kenmore, who met Singh here on Thursday, apprised him of the work done by FAO globally, and in India towards ensuring food security, price stability, family farming and responsible agriculture, an Agriculture Ministry release said.

Ajeevika project

Singh, on his part, appreciated FAO’s micro-level interventions, such as the Ajeevika project, which is part of the Government’s National Rural Livelihood Mission and helps skill development among rural youth.

The Minister said he was happy to note that FAO was marking the current year as the International Year of Family Farming, which he said was especially relevant in the context of the production system in India, which was predominantly based on family farms.
