IICT Chief Scientist Murty elected Fellow of Royal Society

Prof. U.S.N. Murty, Chief Scientist at the Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (IICT), here has been elected as Fellow of the Royal Entomological Society, London.

The Royal Society founded in 1833 nominates Fellows for significant contributions towards entomology, thus joining the ranks of such eminent scientists as Charles Darwin and Alfred Russel Wallace, a press release from IICT said.

Prof. Murty’s work is focused on integrated modelling for control of vector borne diseases such as malaria, filarisais and Japanese encephalitis. For this work, the Royal Society elected him as a Fellow for 2012.

The IICT scientist and his team have developed 'Samadhan Kendra’—a rural information technology centre for the benefit of agricultural community. It is considered one of the benchmark projects and is being implemented in various parts of India.
