Concor eyes Mysore to set up inland container depot

Container Corporation of India (Concor) is planning to set up an inland container depot (ICD) at Nanjangud near Mysore.

About 50 acres of land has been identified by the Karnataka Industries Area Development Board (KIADB) between Mysore and Nanjangud.

“Officials of Concor and South Western Railways (SWR) inspected the area and have submitted the proposal to the Ministry for setting up the ICD,” said Mr Raveen K. Reddy, Chief General Manager, Concor, Southern Region, told

Business Line .

“We have taken the decision to locate the second ICD near Mysore only after seeing SWR operating two goods rake a week to Mangalore port,” Mr Reddy added.

Currently the city generates rail based freight traffic through companies such as Nestle, ABB, ATS, Ranga Rao & Sons and ITC etc.

Mr Reddy said “We have since extended the network to a total of 61 terminals, of which 18 are export-import container depots, and 13 exclusive domestic container depots and as many as 30 terminals perform the combined role of domestic as well as international terminals.” When Concor sets up ICD near Mysore, it will be third in the State after Whitefield near Bangalore and the other in Desur Railway Station, Desur near Belgaum.

New service planned

Talking about Concor in Bangalore, Mr Reddy said “We are planning to run a goods rake from their ICD located at Whitefield in Bangalore to the New Mangalore Port from December 16.

The initial rake will be to transport coffee and granite and then move to other cargo,” explained Mr Reddy.
