GE Aviation on Monday launched its GEnx TRUEngine programme for the GEnx-1B engine and granted the TRUEngine designation to Air India's fleet of GEnx-1B fleet.

The national carrier will get 27 Boeing 787-8 aircraft, for which it has placed orders, with GEnx-1B engines.

Air India is already licensed to perform maintenance and overhaul work on the GEnx-1B engine as part of a 2010 GE Branded Services Agreement.

Qualification for TRUEngine status follows a two-step process, which includes customer declaration and a submittal of maintenance records to ensure the overhaul practices, spare parts and repairs used to service an engine are consistent with GE-issued engine manual, service bulletins and other maintenance recommendations.

“While GEnx engines qualify for TRUEngine designation when they are shipped to the customer for entry into service, this TRUEngine designation demonstrates Air India's commitment to quality maintenance on its engine fleet,” said Mr Bill Fitzgerald, vice-president and general manager of the GEnx engine programme.

A spokesperson for the airline said: “TRUEngine designation to Air India's GEnx-1B engine by GE is yet another honour to its competence for servicing and overseeing the critical maintenance of aircraft engines.”
