Vasan to explore scope for ship-building with Norway

Mr G.K. Vasan, Union Minister for Shipping, who is currently in Norway to participate in Maritime Summit 2011, is to explore on the sidelines of the summit the scope of cooperation between the two countries in the field of ship-building, according to shipping ministry sources.

Equipment supply

The specific issues which are likely to come up for discussion will include the probable supply of Norwegian equipment to Indian shipyards and Norwegian help to upgrade facilities at Cochin Shipyard.

The development of ancillary through technology transfer and joint venture too will come up for a review, it is learnt.

Mr Vasan is also likely to hold meeting with Japan's Minister for International Affairs, Mr Seiichi Ohkuchi.

Arctic research station

The week-long summit, complete with a Nor Shipping Conference and Exhibition at Oslo, is being attended by shipping ministers from 10 participating countries.

Mr Vasan will also visit the first Indian Arctic Research Station, “Himadri”, at Spitsbergen, Svalbard, Norway, add the sources.
