The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) will launch a FASTag-based annual pass for private vehicles, which will be priced at ₹3,000, effective August 15, Roads and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari said on Wednesday.
“In a transformative step towards hassle-free highway travel, we are introducing a FASTag-based Annual Pass priced at ₹3,000, effective from August 15, 2025. Valid for one year from the date of activation or up to 200 trips—whichever comes first—this pass is designed exclusively for non-commercial private vehicles such as cars, jeeps, and vans,” Gadkari said on X.
The Annual Pass will enable seamless and cost-effective travel across National Highways throughout the country. A dedicated link for activation and renewal will soon be made available on the Rajmarg Yatra App as well as on the official websites of NHAI and MoRTH, he added.
This policy addresses long-standing concerns regarding toll plazas located within a 60 km range and simplifies toll payments through a single, affordable transaction.
“By reducing wait times, easing congestion and minimising disputes at toll plazas, the Annual Pass aims to deliver a faster and smoother travel experience for millions of private vehicle owners,” the Minister said.
The Ministry has been working on several policy measures to make NH travel more convenient, particularly while crossing toll plazas.
For instance, MorRTH in September last year notified amendments to the national highway (NH) toll collection system introducing GNSS-based (satellite-based) electronic toll collection, which will provide a seamless and barrier-free tolling experience.
The Ministry revised the National Highways Fee (Determination of Rates and Collection) Rules, 2008 introducing the use of Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) as a method for toll collection.
Under the GNSS-based barrier less free flow tolling, vehicles equipped with GNSS will have to pay any toll for travelling up to 20 kms on NHs, post which the charge will be on the actual distance travelled.
This system is in addition to existing FASTag and Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) technology. These technologies eliminate the need of physical toll collection systems thereby reducing the waiting time at toll plazas.
