Hapag-Lloyd raises freight rates

Hapag-Lloyd, the German shipping line, has announced freight increases on several services to and from the Indian sub-continent, according to shipping industry sources.

Effective June 4, the rates for shipments from North Europe and the Mediterranean to the Indian sub-continent (India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka) will be up $225/ TEU. From July 1, the rates from the US to Indian sub-continent will increase $100/ dry container while for reefer boxes, the rates from the US East Coast will go up $400/FEU and from the US West Coast $300/FEU, the sources added.
