New Mangalore Port sees 30% growth in coal traffic

Coal traffic has seen a growth of 30.27 per cent at New Mangalore Port. Mr S. Gopalakrishna, Traffic Manager of New Mangalore Port Trust , said that the port handled 3.40 million tonnes of coal cargo till February of 2011-12 as against 2.61 mt handled during the corresponding period of previous year.

He said that m.v. CMB Pomerol, a new bulk carrier, owned by Pacific Bridge Shipping Corporation of Republic of Panama, with 89,794 tonnes coal made its maiden voyage to New Mangalore on March 10, which is the highest parcel size of coal ever handled at the port, he said.
