New Railway terminal at Perambur gets green light; ₹428 crore project awaits sanction

This new terminal will enhance Chennai’s railway infrastructure, complementing the existing Chennai Central and Egmore terminals, while a third terminal is under development at Tambaram

A new railway terminal is proposed in the Perambur area and has been approved by Southern Railway’s General Manager, RN Singh. This will ease congestion at Chennai Central.

The work is estimated to cost ₹428 crore and is under process of sanction by the MAS division.

According to SR sources, the terminal is planned in the General Stores depot. The fourth terminal was planned for Villivakkam but was shifted to Perambur. SR GM Singh also confirmed this to the media in July. He said there is sufficient land in Perambur for this development.

Chennai has two terminals - Central and Egmore while the third is under development at Tambaram.
