Russian companies bank on historical ties, offer new military technologies

Arms major Kalashnikov mulls setting up a joint arms facility in India

Kalashnikov which makes the world famous AK47 assault rifles, is set to open a joint arms production facility in India. Victor Kladov, Head of the international co-operation department of Rostec State Corporation, an organization that promotes development, production and export of hi-tech industrial products for civil and defence sectors, said the hunt is on for a partner to set up a joint manufacturing facility.

“We have brought new technologies to display at the Aero India. Russia and India remain strategic partners in both military and civil fields. The showcase of both military and civilian technologies at Aero India 2015 stands testament to that fact,” Kladov said. The Russian contingent for Aero India is led by Rostec State Corporation which comprises more than 30 corporate organizations. At the show, they are expected to demonstrate their project designs suitable to Indian requirements.

According to Kladov, Russia and India are planning to reach a new level of industrial cooperation. They have also engaged in substantive negotiations on the production of Mi-17 and Ka-226T helicopters in India. About $64 billion in contracts have been signed since the beginning of military and technical co-operation between India and Russia in 1960. In 2013 alone, supplies to India constituted more than $3.6 billion.

Russians have also made proposals for the implementation of specific projects, including the joint development of prospective submarine.

United Engine Corporation (UEC), will present a whole range of engines, as well as provide informational materials about their products. In particular, Moscow machine-building enterprise, VV Chernyshev, will present aircraft engines RD-33 (installed on MiG-29SMT jet fighter) and RD-33MK (installed on MiG-35D jet fighter). Ufa Engine Industrial Association will showcase the aviation turbojet bypass engine model with controlled thrust vector, which is installed on the Su-35 aircraft.

Schwabe will demonstrate many exhibits, including models of 24-hour target sight system, installed on Ka-50 helicopter, front view optical radar station of MiG-35 jet fighter and will provide information on optical-electronic sighting system of the Su-27SK jet fighter.

Helicopters of Russia Holding will demonstrate models of combat and transport helicopter Mi-35M and combat helicopter Mi-28NE, and will also provide information on combat and transport helicopter Mi-35 (export version of Mi-24V) and heavy transport helicopter Mi-26.
