‘Perfect domain knowledge is minimum requirement'

A high-level of competence in chosen field is a minimum requirement today as the world is increasingly becoming a doer's world and for that, one should acquire domain knowledge as perfectly as one can, said Mr S. Sridhar, Chairman and Managing Director, Central Bank of India, here.

Delivering the 25th convocation address at the Thiagarajar School of Management (TSM), he highlighted certain points for the outgoing fresh graduates, and said they should think big and aim high; train oneself to be humble, which combined with firmness and competence should yield positive results; never be afraid of making mistakes as they are the pillars for success as one kept striving towards success providing the guideline for the future course of action and acquire a peripheral vision to understand the environment.

He said India is a happening young economy, maturing into a developed one, proving its resilience in withstanding the adverse effects of the recent global economic crisis. It has reached a stage to offer a better quality of life and job and business opportunities have widened and.

He reminded them that today in any field what mattered most was excellence and a will to succeed. Some areas identified for the young professionals for game changing initiatives are urban renewal, intellectual property rights, affordable housing, skill development, public service, environmental design and health care delivery, he mentioned.

Mr Manikam Ramaswami, Chairman, Board of Governors, TSM, speaking earlier, said the bottom line in the society is being increasingly brought under inclusion in all walks of life and a dramatic transformation has been taking place in rural areas with the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme benefiting most.

Prof. N. Venkiteswaran, Director, TSM, presented the annual report. A total of 162 students graduated comprising 56 from MCA and 106 from the MBA stream. The institution won four of the University's top six ranks in MBA course.
