Meet on cluster development

Tamil Nadu has a very high rate of cluster development compared to the rest of the country, but, within the State the southern districts have been lagging in the efforts, said S.R. Samuel, Joint Commissioner for Cluster Development, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), Chennai.

He was addressing a meet with cluster representatives, at an interaction meeting organised by the Madurai District Tiny and Small Scale Industries Association (MADITSSIA), on the need for the growth and development of industrial clusters in the southern districts, here, on Tuesday.

He said that the MSMEs employed over 60 million people across the country and nearly 45 per cent of the total products were produced by them. Referring to the southern districts, he said that the Ministry was looking to resolve issues with respect to technology and land conversion that the aspiring entrepreneurs faced.

A number of memorandums were presented and appeals made for release of funds for projects in the pipeline and queries were raised regarding land conversion for industrial purposes at the meet. The Joint Commissioner assured to represent their requirements to the Ministry's office in Delhi.
