Centre okays Rs 70 cr for Jammu airport project

The Centre has sanctioned Rs 70 crore to expand and upgrade Jammu airport to increase its landing surface and passenger-holding capacity from 200 to 700, a Jammu and Kashmir Minister said today.

The project includes increase in landing surface, setting up of hangers, modernisation and expansion of the airport building and its premises, the Minister for Revenue and Relief, Mr Raman Bhalla, said after a high- level meeting here.

Mr Bhalla said some families, which are living near the airport, will be displaced due to the project and the Government has identified site to rehabilitate them.

For rehabilitation purpose, the State Government has accorded sanction to the transfer of Irrigation and Flood Control Department land, measuring seven acres, on the left of main Ranbir canal at village Rakh Raipur, he added.
