Concern over funds utilisation in Kerala

The Planning Commission is not happy with the pace of utilisation of funds by the Kerala Government with respect to key developmental programmes.

Stating this at a state-level workshop on watershed management, the Chief Minister, Mr Oommen Chandy, said the commission had been liberal in allocations to the State.

“It has even promised to release additional funds to the State for organising the national games, over and above what it has already committed,” Mr Chandy said.

But at the same time, it has been deeply critical of the State’s delay in implementation of the various programmes.

The chief minister blamed this on lack of coordination between different departments. He called upon local bodies, implementing departments and farmers to set right the course.
