Shri Kshetra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project (SKDRDP) will expand its operations in more districts in Karnataka. The Dharmasthala-based NGO, which operates in 11 districts, will extend it to five more districts.
Addressing presspersons at Dharmasthala in Dakshina Kannada district on Saturday, Dr D. Veerendra Heggade, President of SKDRDP, said that it has been decided to expand its operations to Koppal, Chitradurga, Davangere, Mysore and Chamarajanagar districts with immediate effect.
At the end of 2011-12, Shri Kshetra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project had operations in 11 districts promoting 1.69 lakh self-help groups (SHGs). The formation of these SHGs to promote income-generation activities has helped around 18.80 lakh families in these districts, he said.
During 2011-12, the project expanded its activities in Tumkur and Belgaum districts.
Dr Heggade said that SKDRDP is planning to promote around 1.19 lakh SHGs during 2012-13. The aim is to bring a total of 30 lakh families under its SHGs network, he added.
