EPFO clarifies on digital life certificates

Retired persons facing difficulties in submitting life certificate or Jeevan Pramaan digitally under the Employees Pension Scheme, 1995, can now submit this in paper in November 2017, but only if they have digitally done so earlier.

Life certificates

As per provisions under the EPS, about 50 lakh pensioners under the scheme are required to submit life certificate annually in November each year.

Also, a pensioner must cite a “genuine reason” for non-submission of the life certificate digitally, while submitting it in paper form”, the Employees Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) said in a release on Wednesday.

“Those pensioners who have already submitted Jeevan Pramaan digitally for the previous year need not essentially submit digital Jeevan Pramaan for the current year,” EPFO said, adding that “If they face difficulty in doing so, they may submit paper based life certificate to the concerned pension drawing bank branches or can submit Jeevan Pramaan digitally as per their convenience.”.

However, EPFO added that pensioners who have not submitted the life certificate digitally even once “should submit Jeevan Pramaan digitally in the month of November 2017.”
