India and Nepal are set to deepen their economic cooperation, with New Delhi providing a grant of Rs 2.68 crore for the construction of a bridge in Dhanusha district in the Terai plains.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on Thursday by the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu and the Ministry of Physical Planning and Works, Department of Roads, Dhanusha.
A bridge will be constructed over Jamuni river along the Jhoji Kataiya-Lohana-Janakpur road and a slab culvert over the Jalad Khola river.
This is the seventeenth development project in the Dhanusha district undertaken with the assistance of the Indian Government.
Jamuni is a perennial river flowing north-south through alluvial plains at Jhoji Kataiya and Lohana villages.
During monsoon, several villages remain cut off from the rest of the district due to flooding in the river.
The proposed bridge will directly benefit over 70,000 people in eight villages.
