Bombay, Madras High Court names to be changed

The Cabinet on Tuesday approved a ₹32,835-crore project for redevelopment of seven government pool residential colonies in New Delhi to meet the housing demand of central government employees besides creating new office space.

The project is to be completed in five years and includes maintenance cost for 30 years.

The colonies will be redeveloped in Sarojini Nagar, Netaji Nagar, Nauroji Nagar through NBCC India Ltd and Kasturba Nagar, Thyagraj Nagar, Srinivaspuri and Mohammadpur through the Central Public Works Department.

High court names

The Cabinet also cleared the proposal to introduce ‘The High Courts (Alteration of Names) Bill, 2016’ in Parliament. This will facilitate the changing of the names of ‘Bombay High Court as Mumbai High Court’ and ‘Madras High Court as Chennai High Court’ respectively. 

Rural development pact

The signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between India and Mauritius was approved which aims to establish a framework for cooperation between the National Development Unit, Prime Minister’s Office of the Republic of Mauritius and the Union Ministry of Rural Development in rural development.

This will encourage cooperation in the field of rural development and capacity building. Under the MoU, a Joint Committee on Cooperation on Rural Development will be established which will meet alternatively in both countries on mutually agreed dates.
