Sangma files nomination for Presidential poll

Mr P.A. Sangma, Opposition candidate for the Presidential poll, today filed his nomination papers in the presence of leaders from the BJP, some NDA allies, BJD, AIADMK, North-East states and tribal legislators here.

Accompanied by the NDA Working Chairperson, Mr L.K. Advani, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Ms Sushma Swaraj, her Rajya Sabha counterpart Mr Arun Jaitley, the Odisha Chief Minister, Mr Naveen Patnaik and his Punjab counterpart Mr Parkash Singh Badal, among others, Mr Sangma filed his nomination papers at 2:31 p.m. in the Rajya Sabha Secretary General’s office in Parliament.

Three sets of papers were filed in support of Mr Sangma. The BJD chief, Mr Patnaik filed one set with 108 signatures in Mr Sangma’s favour, another set was filed by the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, Ms J. Jayalalithaa, with 120 signatures, while the third set was filed by Mr Advani and Mr Badal with 122 signatures of members of the electoral college.
