The annual consumer price indexed based inflation for the month of March rose to 8.31 percent as against 8.03 percent (final) in the previous month.

This spurt is essentially on account of a spike in food inflation to 9.1 percent from 8.57 percent in the previous month.

The CPI data for the month of February has been revised to 8.03 percent from 8.10 percent (provisional).

While the rural retail inflation for March 2014 stood at 8.89 percent (8.43 percent), the retail inflation in urban areas stood at 7.51 percent (7.55 percent)
