The Tamil Nadu Foodgrains Merchants Association has urged the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) to issue guidelines and announce the details of documents to be carried along with money in transit and ensure that inspecting officials adhered strictly to the guidelines, without affecting the business.
In a letter addressed to CEC at New Delhi and Chennai, the Association Secretary, Mr S.V.S.S.Velshankar, while welcoming the measures taken by the Commission to ensure free and fair exercise of franchise by the voters in the coming elections to the state, said that officials in the guise of vehicle search have been confiscating money carried by traders and industrialists for genuine purposes and depositing the same with Government Treasuries.
He said that with the economy picking up after a recession, the seizure of money under the pretext of election is not acceptable.
