Vijay Mallya is scheduled to return to Westminster Magistrates’ Court in London on Monday when his extradition trial is listed for a judgement hand-down. The 62-year-old former Kingfisher Airlines boss, is wanted in India on alleged fraud and money laundering charges amounting to an estimated Rs 9,000 crore. He has been on bail since his arrest on an extradition warrant in April last year. He has contested his extradition on the grounds that the case against him is “politically motivated” and the loans he has been accused of defrauding on were sought to keep his now-defunct airline afloat.
Tokyo prosecutors are expected to indict former Nissan Motor Chairman Carlos Ghosn on Monday for financial misconduct. Prosecutors also plan to indict former representative director Greg Kelly as well as the automaker itself on the same day. Ghosn and Kelly were arrested on November 19, a development that shook the foundations of the Renault-Nissan alliance and stunned the auto industry. Ghosn remains Chairman and Chief Executive of Renault SA.
HMD Global is to launch the Nokia 8.1 in India on Monday. The Nokia 8.1 is the successor of the Nokia 7 Plus, which is one of the most popular smartphones produced by the company. Nokia 8.1 is expected to launch in the Rs 20,000-26,000 price bracket. It is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 710, the first smartphone with Snapdragon 710 to be launched in India.
