The Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) on spectrum allocations again failed to conclude the list of witnesses.
While the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), whose members have returned to the JPC meetings after a brief tussle with its Chairman P.C. Chacko, demanded the summoning of the Prime Minister, the DMK reiterated its suggestion that the former Telecom Minister, A. Raja, should be given an opportunity to explain his position.
There are also demands that major telecom players should also be summoned before the panel.
The Left parties, too, maintained in the panel that the JPC probe will be incomplete unless Finance Minister P. Chidambaram, explains why he dropped the demand by the Finance Ministry that the 2G prices should be determined as per the market rate.
Congress members, however, have refused both the suggestions.
The BJP members did not give a convincing answer to why they decided to go back to the panel. It is learnt that after the deposition of former Cabinet Secretary K.M. Chandrasekhar, the party has seen a chance to corner the Prime Minister and Finance Minister on the 2G issue.
The representatives of the Cellular Operators Association of India made a presentation before the panel. The deposition of COAI, however, could not be completed as the members wanted detailed answers from them on several issues, including the impact of migration package on revenue and tele-density.
