Marginal rise in GSM subscriber base in May

The GSM subscriber base rose marginally by 0.47 per cent to 667.56 million in May, with Vodafone India adding the maximum number of users.

The nine GSM operators added a total of 3.11 million users during the month under review, according to data released by industry body Cellular Operators’ Association of India (COAI).

For the GSM operators, the maximum user additions came in from Uttar Pradesh (East) circle with a total of 60.08 million users.

Vodafone

Vodafone India added the maximum number of 9,10,320 users, increasing its total customer base to 154.7 million in May, with a 23.17 per cent market share.

Vodafone was followed by Idea Cellular, with the company adding 8,67,233 users, taking its total to 123.75 million users.

The Aditya Birla Group company had an 18.54 per cent market share, it said.

Airtel

Bharti Airtel, the country’s largest mobile operator by subscribers, added 851,999 users, third in subscriber additions, but maintained its leadership position with a total of 189.65 million subscribers. In May, it company had a 28.41 per cent marketshare.
