Wipro completes a decade in West Asia; plans expansion

IT major Wipro has said it plans to expand its operations in West Asia.

“Middle East has proved to be the growth engine for Wipro among emerging markets. In the last three years, the Middle East region has grown 100 per cent in terms of revenues, and we expect the momentum to continue. We are looking at expanding our presence further in the region, as we see fresh opportunities coming up in Kuwait and Qatar,” a press statement quoting Mr Anand Sankaran, Senior Vice-President and Business Head, India, Middle East and Africa, Wipro said.

Wipro, which has completed 10 years in West Asia has offices in Sharjah, Abu Dhabi, Kuwait, Qatar, Al Kobar, Riyadh, Jeddah and Bahrain. Wipro has over 1,300 employees servicing over 100 customers in the region.

Wipro has two near-shore development centres in the region at Dubai and Egypt to service customers in West Asia. Saudi Arabia is the largest market in the region, and Wipro has a successful joint venture called Wipro Arabia Limited (WAL), established between Wipro Ltd and Dal Al Riyadh. Some of the major verticals in the area include infrastructure, banking, telecom and oil and gas, apart from Government-sponsored investments in education and healthcare.

Some of Wipro's major clients in West Asia include the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology where the company has implemented an enterprise resource planning project. Wipro also manages the entire IT infrastructure and applications for Saudi Arabian Airlines.
