If you are a football fan and looking up the Net for attractive offers this season, be warned.

Cyber criminals might just be tempting you to click on an email that possibly says: ''You've won two tickets for the final of the World Cup 2014."

And by clicking on the link, you may be led to a compromised website that downloads malware on to your computer.

Spammers and scammers love this kind of event because they know that during the World Cup, all football fans will be looking for attractive offers, says Fortinet's FortiGuard team, cautioning Net users about internet scams and attacks from the global cyber criminal community in the coming days and weeks.

If you discover an online store offering unbelievable specials for tickets, do some digging to make sure it is a legitimate store, the experts advise users.

"Being suspicious of deals that appear to be too good to be true is key during this hot event period, as the good deals are often pure frauds," says Guillaume Lovet, Senior Manager, FortiGuard Labs.

The Lab has appealed to Net users to be wary of links that either lead to applications or external websites, connect only to secure access points and check that the connections are well secured HTTPS connections.
