Terming it as ‘limited advertisements’, Amazon Prime Team, in a notification to users said, “This will allow us to continue investing in compelling content and keep increasing that investment over a long period of time”

Starting June 17, Amazon’s Prime Video members will have to pay more for ad-free content as movies and TV shows will now carry ads on the platform.

Terming it as ‘limited advertisements’, Amazon Prime Team, in a notification to users said, “This will allow us to continue investing in compelling content and keep increasing that investment over a long period of time. “

It assured members that this will not change the current price of the membership and no action was needed, but for ad-free content, they will have to shell out an additional ₹699 per year or ₹129 per month.

The platform added, “We aim to have meaningfully fewer ads than TV channels and other streaming services.” Prime members will continue to get all the benefits of shopping and entertainment on the platform, with or without the ads.

The move is in line with Amazon’s other global arms as well in the US, Canada, UK, where ad-supported streaming has been in effect.

Shows on Amazon MX Player, however, will continue to have ads even with the add-on option.
