Jeff Bezos, founder and Chief Executive Officer of the world’s largest online retailer Amazon, says its India marketplace Amazon.in is the most visited shopping site in the country for the last two years.

In a letter to Indian shoppers, posted on its India home page, on Amazon.in’s fifth anniversary on June 5, Bezos thanked them for their support in making it possible. “Amazon.in is ‘India ki apni dukaan.’ We are five years into our journey, but as we say here at Amazon, its still Day 1, and I’m energised and humbled by the opportunities ahead.”

To celebrate our fifth year anniversary and to say thank you for your support we want to extend this offer: If you spend Rs 1000 or more on Amazon.in today (June 6th), using any digital payment method, you’ll receive Rs 250 cashback as Amazon Pay balance, he wrote.

Stating that the progress in India is energising, he said, “customers from 100 per cent serviceable pin codes in India have placed orders on Amazon.in, thanks to the local innovations like Udaan and I Have Space. Programs like Chai Kart, Tatkal and Saheli have helped bring small businesses and local artisans across all of India to start selling online.”

Prime eligible selection for free fast delivery now includes tens of millions of local products; Alexa introduced in India late last year already offers over 15,000 skills; the Kindle Book Store now offers eBooks in five languages including Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Gujarati and Malayalam; and the company is working with top talent in India on a dozen new Prime Original series including ‘Breathe’ which is popular not just in India but across the globe, he added.

Amazon ships packages from more than 50 fulfilment centres in 13 States and our teams are becoming part of many local communities –from providing lighting for rural homes to assisting with local environmental projects, he said.
