In talks with Microsoft, Nasscom for incubation centres

The Chhattisgarh government is in talks with Microsoft, Cisco and Nasscom to set up centres that will focus on the start-up ecosystem in the capital city of Raipur, Chief Minister Raman Singh said.

Chhattisgarh wants to position itself as an IT hub in the next few years by inviting leading IT firms to establish development centres in the state.

“We are in advanced stages of discussions with Microsoft and Nasscom to setup incubation centres where we can identify and nurture start-ups. With Cisco, the idea is to setup a Centre of Excellence. We have given them the option of setting up a greenfield centre or having a base in either International Institute of Information Technology or Indian Institute of Management in Raipur,” said Singh.

The Minister was here to make presentations about the State to industry captains at the Nasscom India Leadership Forum. Singh also sought to change the perception of Chhattisgarh as a State plagued by Naxalism.

“The Naxalite problem exists in districts such as Bastar and Dantewada, but not in Raipur. Our capital city is comparable to Bengaluru when it comes to the standard of living and urban infrastructure such as roads, malls, clubs and so on,” Singh said.

The Chhattisgarh delegation is also in talks with Tata Consultancy Services, Infosys and Rolta for potential investments, he added.
