Datawind on Friday said it will supply its UbiSlate (consumer version of Aakash) to customers by October.
Datawind was unable to supply the tablets to some consumers, even though they had paid, because of delay in the Government project.
The company said that it has completed the supply of Aakash tablets to the Government.
Suneet Singh Tuli, Chief Executive Officer of Datawind, said the company is now ready for the next round of Aakash tablet for which the Government is expected to come out with a tender soon.
Tuli challenged other tablet makers to manufacture a product such as Aakash at Rs 2,500.
“As per my information, the committee on Aakash tablets is looking to higher version of the devices at Rs 2,500 a piece and we are ready to match the price on order for every 10 lakh units,” he said.
On the backlog of UbiSlate, where many consumers are still awaiting to receive since they have placed the order a year back, Tuli said it does not exist anymore.
“We are also going back to the customers who had booked the devices last year and asking if they still want the product, and also if they want the refreshed version of UbiSlate at some discount,” he said.
He said if a few customers have not got the device, it is only because the company is not able to reach them because of address or phone number change.
“We have put out on our Web site that ‘if you have not received the device please get in touch with us’ as we are not able to reach them,” he said.
He said the company’s 170 employees on customer service centres are clarifying to all the queries on delivery of the products.
The company is now getting around 1,000 bookings on each day and is delivering around 2,500-3,000 units on a daily basis and expects to sell around 10 lakh units this year.
It has a capacity of assembling around 1,000 units per day and gets around 1,500-1,700 units from the Montreal facility on a daily basis, he added.
