Digital has disrupted every industry: EVRY chief

IT services companies must do a digital transformation, says Bjorn Ivroth

Norwegian IT services provider EVRY ASA, with a revenue of $1.5 billion, is a leading IT services provider in the Nordics region.

It specialises in the financial services, local government, public sector, healthcare and insurance services. Local subsidiary EVRY India has been delivering IT services to customers in the US and Europe for more than 24 years.

Its has global delivery centres in Bengaluru and Chandigarh. Bjorn Ivroth, CEO, EVRY, recently inaugurated a 1,400-facility within the Global Village Tech Park, Bengaluru.

Ivroth shared his views about the industry trends and growth plans for EVRY with BusinessLine .

How is EVRY India dealing with disruptive changes at the market place?

Artificial Intelligence being the new norm, we have a strong focus in this space. Few prototypes developed by EVRY India are for automated vehicle damage assessment and driver behaviour analytics — a potential game changer for insurance companies.

Robotics process automation along with interaction bots are a few technologies we’re working on in the areas of insurance underwriting, portfolio investment advisory and store management.

EVRY India has recently implemented a Big Data project for an oil and gas drilling company in the US to enable predictive analytics of yield from their oil wells. In the next phase, EVRY India is proposing an Internet of Things (IoT) solution to measure and control oil and gas extraction from drilling wells. This automation would not only reduce manual labour but also further improve efficiency and identify parameters to improve yield.

I think the IT services industry worldwide is rising up to the challenges. Yes, there will be a few companies who may not be able to make the transition smoothly, but I can tell you that we saw this relatively early and have been transforming since then.

What is your assessment of prospects for the IT services market overall in this age of digitisation?

Digital has disrupted every industry. Therefore, there is an inevitable transformation required from IT services companies as well.

Yes, there is a shift from traditional IT towards digital. However, the services industry is adapting to it by aligning its business models to a world that is more focussed on business outcomes, rapid interactive development cycles and innovative solutions that leverage new technologies. IT spends continue to grow, although the distribution of the spend is moving away from traditional business IT. The prospects, therefore, for companies that adapt to these changes remains positive in our assessment.

We realised the impact of digitisation relatively early and started our transformation few years back. We partner with customers to create digital advantage.

By introducing fresh insight and expertise, we help them navigate new opportunities, help in running their IT systems, modernise their business and innovate new game changing solutions.

The constant flow of new digital solutions and business models, provides companies with the chance to advance. Companies that exploit digital opportunities can change the game to their advantage.

How big is the Nordic market for IT services?

The Nordic market is a leading and early adopter of technologies, digital in particular. Together, the four Nordic countries account for more than $1.5 trillion of the GDP with a significant presence of billion-dollar club companies and a strong SME sector.

The manufacturing sector, with more than $14 billion on IT spend, is the largest sector in terms of IT spend followed by digitisation of government services.

The benefits of outsourcing are well understood in the Nordics — large corporation and government entities have long-term contracts in place.
