EMC India has launched its surveillance lab, with an eye on bagging smart cities and transportation-related projects in the country.
The Indian arm of tech major has made a multi-year investment in testing and certifying both hardware and software that goes into surveillance devices.

“The Surveillance Lab will help organisations reduce the deployment risk and support requirements and also provide a proven, repeatable architecture and a performance that is consistent,” he added. Apart from the US, EMC has centres in China, Egypt, Ireland, Israel and Russia.
Globally, video surveillance is on the rise and according to research by IHS Technology, the sales of video surveillance equipment to reach $26 billion by 2018. India is increasing its usage of video surveillance and EMC has deployments in five cities but did not name them due to confidentiality reasons.
Industry watchers opine that feeds from 10,000 cameras are tracked in a day through EMC’s technologies. The company is partnering with system integrators who can customise their solutions according to specific needs.
“As India strides towards developing smart cities, there will be an increasing need to store and analyse the videos against deliberate and accidental threats,” said Gallant.
