The Electronics and Computer Software Export Promotion Council has signed a memorandum of understanding with Mobile Content Forum, a Japanese trade association, to foster ties between Indian and Japanese IT companies.

The idea is to ensure that member companies of both organisations work together in the areas of application development, gaming and embedded software, said Council’s Executive Director D.K. Sareen told Business Line. “Fifty of our member companies have their own offices in Tokyo… Companies on both side will benefit by outsourcing to Indian companies,” he said. MCF has around 150 member companies that specialise in developing applications, games and content for mobile devices.

Koji Ito, Executive Director of MCF, signed the MoU with Sareen at the ‘Indiasoft - India IT Show,’ held here on Monday.

Japan is the world's second largest IT services opportunity after the US. However, top Indian IT exporters generate less than two per cent of revenues from the $200-billion market. According to the MCF, Japan’s market for mobile gaming touched $5.1 billion in 2012.

J.K. Dadoo, Joint Secretary, Department of Commerce, Ministry of Commerce & Industry, said that in the recent months, IT exports were picking up. He expects the growth to be more pronounced going forward as the slowdown trends in developing countries phase out gradually.

By 2020, the Government expects ICT trade to go up to $300 billion.
