ForMe mobiles launched in India

Peace Telecom India Pvt Ltd, owned by the Hong Kong-based marketing and trading company Peace Telecom, on Tuesday launched a range of ForMe branded mobile handsets in the Indian market.

The company is the sole distributor for ForMe handsets in India. According to Mr M. Syed Abuthahir, Director of Peace Telecom, ForMe phones are manufactured by ForMe Communications Technology Ltd of China. The company manufactures 11.5 million handsets a year and has a turnover of $220 million. Introduced by cricketer Murali Vijay, all the five models that were launched on Tuesday are dual-SIM phones. The phones are priced in the range of Rs 1,450 to Rs 2,600. “Our plan is to launch at least two new models every month,” said Mr Abuthahir.

Though these mobiles are currently available only in the South, “the national rollout will follow soon,” he said

‘Huge potential'

According to market statistics, India adds 2.8 crore new connections every month. On this basis, it is expected that the country will add at least 50 crore new connections by the end of 2012.
