Google launches Tamil language support for AdSense, AdWords

Google India launched Tamil language support for AdSense and AdWords in Chennai today enabling advertisers to run Tamil ads.

Jaivir Nagi, Head – Online Partnerships Business, Google India, said the soft launchlast month, saw an overwhelming response and so far has 900 publishers on the platform.

The company will study the market for three months to understand where content is coming from and reach out to publishers in smaller towns through workshops and awareness programmes. Prior to Tamil, Google India launched the platform in Hindi in 2014 and Bengali, three months ago.

Digital advertisements is set to reach ₹30,000 crore by 2021 and local language will account for about ₹10,000 crore.

Currently, digital advertisements in local languages account for 5 per cent. Nagi says this offers a huge potential for platforms such as Google AdSense and for Tamil content publishers.

Nagi said as the opportunity grows, plans are underway to launch the platform in more regional languages.
